Music

The London Syrian Ensemble, led by composer and Ney soloist Louai Alhenawi, is a stunning collective of eight musicians and graduates from Syria’s renowned Damascus Conservatoire.

This show reveals their new project, Sounds of Syria, a dynamic and emotional work, which brings to the stage new instrumental arrangements by composers from Syria and its diaspora. The ensemble includes oud, kanun, ney, violin, viola, double bass and percussion and performances also include a range of fantastic guest vocalists.

Alongside featured guest vocalists and songs from Arabic folk and classical repertoire, Sounds of Syria examines the new approaches and sounds created when Syrian music is composed in foreign lands, exploring themes of longing and loss, hope and new beginnings.

Regardless of the progression of new lives elsewhere, the essence of a lost Syria is never too far behind
